The Arbor Consort

About Me

The Arbor Consort (until 1998 known as Our Lady's Madrigal Singers) is a semi-professional a cappella vocal ensemble formed in 1982 to sing music of the Renaissance (15th through 17th centuries). We perform in colorful historic costumes of the period, appearing at the Michigan Renaissance Festival each year as a resident ensemble.

In our Renaissance mode we also appear at weddings, parties, meetings, and as public events in and around Ann Arbor. The Arbor Consort is available for Renaissance performances year round.

Our other persona is as Holiday carolers. In picturesque costumes of 19th-century England, we perform familiar Christmas favorites, as well as some Hanukkah selections and several beautiful European carols in their original languages. As carolers we have performed for the Main Street and State Street Merchants, Detroit Public Library, Kerrytown, Hamberg Historical Society, U of M Hospital, and at various churches, parties and events. According to the patron's needs, we can perform as a featured entertainment, or provide a festive background and atmosphere.

Band Members: CALL FOR SINGERS!!

The Board of The Arbor Consort invites you all to sing with us in this upcoming season!

Our Holiday season is when we switch time periods from Renaissance to roughly the Victorian Era, the late 18th and early 19th Centuries. We begin rehearsals for this season on October 1st, again under the fine Direction of Juan Pereira.

As always, we meet from 7:30 - 9:30 PM at Calvary United Methodist Church, 1415 Miller Road, Ann Arbor. For a map and directions, and more information about TAC, please visit our web site www.arbor-consort.org. Sit in with us at rehearsal, and have a relaxed vocal audition at the end of the evening with our Director, it's just that easy!

Our repertoire is SATB Holiday music, carols and secular & sacred music loosely appropriate to the Victorian Era, primarily from the Oxford Book of Carols and Gladys Pitcher, with Octavo pieces as well.

During this season we hope to be performing in small groups of 4-6 people for the State and Main Street Area Associations on Friday evenings from 7:30 - 9:30 PM starting after Thanksgiving Day. Other venues include Kerrytown Market and Shops, The Hamburg Historical Museum, Tyme Well Spent Tea Room, Green Oak Village Place Mall, and others.

Our big performance is the last Sunday prior to Christmas, when we all gather at UM Hospital to sing in small groups covering all the adult floors, singing for those unfortunate enough to be in Hospital during the season. A very rewarding afternoon, in so many ways. Afterward we all repair to Cottage Inn Pizza for an end of season party to wish each other well and say goodbye until we resume the next year.
