I am the Commercial Music Program at South Plains College in Levelland Texas. I was created 30 some years ago - the brainchild of the Dean Of Students Nathan Tubb and guitar player/entrepreneur John Hartin. I started out in 1975 as a unique program to offer students a chance to study country and bluegrass music in a college setting. I have since grown to include all styles of music including bluegrass, modern and traditional country and swing, classic rock, heavy metal, alternative, Texas country, pop, jazz, classic and modern R&B, Latin, Christian, Celtic, and more.Students come from all over the world to study popular music songwriting, theory, MIDI, Pro Tools, and take private lessons on guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, voice, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, dobro, steel, and more.We produce live music television shows and music videos, and we have 3 state of the art recording studios.Former students from this program include Lee Ann Womack, Natalie Maines, Heath Wright of Ricochet, Stuart Duncan, Mike Bub, Ron Block, and many more successful musicians, songwriters, producers, and engineers. Former students have won over a dozen Grammys and scores of CMA, ACM, Latin Music, and IBMA awards.
