Born in the back of a pottery studio, Long Gone Sam has matured from playful to exciting, much like the music that they play. Drawing from every influence that surrounds them, the quintet evokes ever changing styles from country to funk, from reggae to disco. While full of original material, they are also known to recreate the sounds of classic rockers and bluesmen.
At its inception, Long Gone Sam was Michael Lynch and William Bailey on lead guitar and drums respectively. The two have played together for as long as they can remember and have developed that special “music telekinesis†that only comes from time in the trenches.
Dylan Huntress comes to the band with a powerful drive, a steady back beat, and a graceful surefootedness that brings up the low end. When coupled with Will’s polyrhythmic skills, they are a rhythm section to be reckoned with.
Jake Powell met the guys after graduating from art school and brings a different sensitivity and texture on rhythm guitar that can nudge the group through strange valleys and towering cacophonies. Also lending his voice to songs, he adds a special spice to the stew.
Michael Lynch, the unofficial leader of the group, is an exceptional guitar player, an inspired song writer, and a singer who can morph his entire personality as any song sees fit. He is the driving force behind the band and is constantly striving for that next “thing†or “moment†that will propel them to the next level of perfection.
Last, but not least, is Kelly Schauf. The band’s newest member comes from an amazingly diverse music background. After jamming with the band on his saxophone the first time, everyone knew that this was “itâ€. There is something so special about a fantastic sax that the band’s sound has been enhanced tenfold.
As a group, the band has two seemingly opposing goals. To be proficient musicians who can surrender to the muse at a moments notice and simply exist as a band in that moment and express themselves with or without words. At the same time the quintet strives to be true to their inspirations and recreate classic songs with astute accuracy. All in all, what Long Gone Sam’s ultimate goal is to give its audience an amazing show of music and experience that they won’t soon forget.
