I teach ,a vocal toning workshop called "Creative Soundings(R)", where the participant learns to allow sound to "emit" easily and effortlessly in a free-form and improvisational way. It's not catagorized as Jazz or Gospel, or any other style of singing. BUT, and here's where the sheer joy and fun of it lies, it's a technique that assists the participant to experience being at the center of his/or her voice and allowing a quiet space of freedom of vocal self-expression to come shining through. Many comments have included: "I have never been able to just turn my mind off. Even having a husband who teaches meditation didn't help. But when I realised in the middle of the "sounding" that I'd been "somewhere else" it totally blew my mind!"
