Heavily influenced by the early success of the 90's bands like Teddy Riley and GUY, Babyface, Jodeci and Mint Condition, AZ-1 soon joined the New Jack era with a hit record of their own. Group Members Shawn Harris, Jeff Gill, Martin Kember and LA Dre spent the next 2 years touring and having the time of their lives. " I Will never forget coming home to Brooklyn" says singer/rapper Shawn Harris, " We spent one night on the air at WBLS with Vaughn Harper who played our whole album on his show and interviewed me and the guys.. and the next night we performed in Manhattan, NYC showed AZ1 alot of love". "I Think for me the highlight was performing on Soul Train and a priceless interview by Don Cornelius" says lead singer Martin.. "man, I couldnt wipe the grin off my face!" All that success and one has to ask themselves, WHY no follow up record?.. Well, their record label, Scottie Bros(BMG) changed hands and as the old story goes, AZ-1 sat on the shelf for a while. Since then, JEFF GILL became a successful entrepreneur in music and real estate, and while working for MAGIC JOHNSON's label, singed and brought the world R&B's sensation "AVANT". MARTIN went on to producing 2 bangers for hip hop legend 2PAC (Thug n you, Thug n me & Let em have it) and released his solo debut on Warner Bros records called "ONE SHADE OF LOVE". SHAWN HARRIS became a successful mortgage broker and is back in his native NYC. Last word was LA Dre was in ATL and working in the music scene there. If You have ever wished for the AZ1 saga to continue..
