A young Will began by playing his toy glockenspiel through the front door to the milkman in hometown Burgess Hill, before being handed a shiny new trumpet to make lots of noise with in rural Pannal, North Yorkshire. Music of choice in these early years included Bon Jovi, Del Shannon and The Wombles. Thankfully things improved.
A move back down south to Winchester brought an introduction to brass bands with the inspirational Leighton Rich, and a guitar was purchased when five hopeful teenagers formed what could only loosely be described as a 'band'. In truth this involved designing album covers and planning dramatic stage shows, whilst ultimately never really having any songs or, some might argue, talent.
Student years in Exeter were largely spent immersed in the works of Nick Drake, Pink Floyd, Radiohead and The Stone Roses, whilst developing a degree of competency on guitar and making a few tentative attempts at songwriting.
Band activity revolved for many years around User and Moja, playing trumpet and piano alongside the likes of Pete Hobbs and Eva Rice (now The Boy Least Likely To), John Hassall (The Libertines) and Andy Burrows (Razorlight). Not to mention the ever Fabulous Rockmen ! Highlights included being just a small can of petrol away from performing at Glastonbury in 2000, and (ahem...) meeting Lulu.
More songs followed, and a trip to the studio was made when the trusty Yamaha 4-Track could take no more. Then it was off to North London for a brief spell in Hampstead before a return to Winchester, a wife and family ...and discovering MySpace.
Currently plying my trade as a jack-of-all for the Glad Rags ...
