About Me
Jeff and Andrew are a pair of artists who are out to experience everything life holds. They met in college, started jamming, and soon found they had a musical connection neither had found before. They’d both been performing in other bands for years, but those efforts turned out to be dead ends. "This time it's different," they state with confidence. They found that they had the same interests and styles in music and decided to make their brief, amusing jam sessions into something real. Their band is The Epicure and while that strictly means “connoisseur of fine wine,†they like to think of themselves as connoisseurs of appreciation: appreciation for the good, the bad, and everything in between. They recognize the beauty in struggle and value their ability to sing out their story. “It's what we do,†Andrew says.
A lot of factors have influenced the intriguing sound of The Epicure, their lives have certainly influenced their lyrics and their classical training has influenced their indie-rock style. Just take a listen to a few of their songs - it’s the type of music that gets under your skin and sticks with you. And there’s a bonus, the combination of sound and story encourages you to consider your own life.
Quite a few of their songs deal with the side of life that nobody really likes to talk about. Hidden within their lyrics are criticisms of religious establishments and other cultural norms. Other lyrics are about love. In any case nearly every song has to do with loss. “In order to gain anything, loss has to take place first,†says Andrew.
“Jeff and I want to make music that causes people to reach into that deeper part of themselves that they are afraid to go into because it’s uncomfortable.†The difficulty in creating music with lasting impact is turning personal experience into universal story and setting it to the right sound. Jeffy and Andrew strive to do just that.
“I would love to think our music inspires and motivates people to think for themselves,†Andrew says. “We live for the audience, and if we ever get to the place where we are playing in front of thousands of people and our lyrics are sung back to us, we will get down on my knees and cry.â€
