"On the production side, however, Mike Gao and newcomer Nick Sena cannot be fucked with. At first you think they're just coming with a couple of jazzy loops, but as [El Foto Grande] progresses, they heap layer upon layer, creating a musical lasagna with crusty samples as the meat and whimsical synth lines as the noodles. Whereas Robust's lyrics are simple and straightforward, Gao and Sena's tracks are subtle and nuanced. Listen for the sick string loops that sneak into "Think About It" and the blink-and-you'll-miss-it dub passages in "Love to Hate." The duo's pairing of live synth and acoustic guitar and vocal and string loops on "Time and Work" is downright masterful. I could go on and on, but instead I'll just point out the incredible, album-ending instrumental "Ho Sognato." This rhodes-drenched, space-jazzy head-nodder is one the record's finest tracks.
