About Me
Don Juan doesn’t have any engaging street tales about growing up in the projects, being involved with gangs, drugs or alcohol. He didn’t drop out of high school, has never been arrested or had to deal with the glamorized drama of being a “baby’s daddyâ€.In fact, Don Juan, 22, a student majoring in Business, practically grew up on the church pews of Hightown Church of God in Northport, Alabama. With a quiet, innocent, child-like candor, reminiscent of the “boy next doorâ€, Don Juan carries himself like a perfect gentleman. But, who is Don Juan?He is the Sunday school teacher who inspires you to study the Holy word of God. He is an accomplished musician on instruments ranging from piano, b flat, e flat alto, bass and contra bass clarinets, as well as the conga and bongo hand drums. And though his character may not meet the “typical†profile of a rap artist, among many things, Don Juan is a rapper – a Christian rapper.Yet, ask Don Juan who he is and he will say:“I am merely a vessel for the Lord; I am an instrument of my Father’s will.â€With spiritual rhymes that boldly deliver the Gospel message in a contemporary format, Don Juan is one artist who is truly unashamed of his devotion to Christ. In which case, his message is “by no means watered down.â€At age 18, Don Juan wrote and co-produced his first song, entitled “Father, Help Usâ€. After performing the song at the National Inspirational Youth Convention in Chicago, Ill., he realized God wanted him to negate his plans to attend art school in Ga., and minister to His people through rap.“The music of our generation is so polluted with money, sex and drugs,†says Don Juan. “It was time for God’s kingdom to advance.â€Through faithful obedience to God’s will and an on going persistence, Don Juan has been blessed to perform at numerous churches and events during his career. One of his many highlights include performing at the “I Hear The Music: New Artist Showcase,†hosted by Dr. Bobby Jones. And though God’s kingdom is always advancing through many forms and gifts, Don Juan knows his job is still not finished.“God did not give me this lyrical gift for me to waste,†he says. “I am simply fulfilling the Great Commission.â€
