The Metro Studio is the strapping young theatre opened in 2005 by Janet, Ian, Nathan, George, and Holly at Intrepid Theatre Society . Intrepid also produces two big festivals in BC's capital each year: the Victoria Fringe Theatre Festival , and the Uno Festival of Solo Performance . The venue is being converted from an old gymnasium into 2007. It stars our good friends Christopher from Flavour, Emily from Elephant Island, and Bill from Monday Magazine. Everyone's friend Sven designed the flying instruments, which you may have seen featured last February during the play SKYDIVE. (The music kicks in after about thirty seconds.)Bob "Piano Tuner" Wiseman, a Toronto music legend, performed at our 2007 Uno Festival of Solo Performance. Here's a video we found of local band Ghosts, performing at the Metro in November 2005:Artists Celine Stubel and Amitai Marmorstein, two former UVic Theatre Dept students, performed as Penny and Ezra Lamb in Atomic Vaudeville's LEGOLAND this spring. In this clip, The Lambs cover a song by Eminem - for one reason or another this scene was left out of LEGOLAND:England's Andrew Dawson came to perform ABSENCE AND PRESENCE at the Metro during the 2006 Intrepid Theatre season. Those of you who saw this unforgettable show will recognize clips from the piece in this short compilation of Andrew's productions:Caleb Beyers shot Immaculate Machine's new music video in and around the Metro - here it is, fresh out of the editing room:Our pals at the Old Trout Puppet Workshop in Calgary came around the Metro in May to perform FAMOUS PUPPET DEATH SCENES. The play was almost as good as the parties. This is an entrancing scene called "King Jeff The Magnificent", wherein the puppet dies after levitating off the planet at midnight on New Year's Eve:Realwheels Theatre and the Belfry Theatre brought a crazy show called SKYDIVE to the Metro earlier this year. Our buddies, actors Bob Frazer and James Sanders, strapped in to flying instruments invented by a local guy named Sven Johanssen, and covered the entire volume of the Metro stage during the play. The play went on to win three Jessie Richardson theatre awards in Vancouver (the Vancouver version of the Tonys). Here's some behind-the-scenes on the creative process:
