Embodying the American dream, is the highly talented yet modest, lyricist and rapper, Safe Money. Born in Winston-Salem, NC (also known as the “Treâ€) on November 29, 1983, Safe Money became intrigued by the world of hip-hop as a child. At the age of 14, Safe Money began writing, drawing lyrical inspiration from everyday experiences. By 1999, at the age of 16, he set out to educate himself about the elements of hip-hop music. He began rapping with friend and producer Blahzae in a group out of Winston-Salem, known as Team Urban in 2000. Refining and perfecting his musical skill, he created a studio in his home, venturing into the production of his own music. When he began setting his lyrics to music, it was apparent Safe Money was blessed with a natural lyrical ability many artists can only dream about having. In 2003, at the age of 19, Safe Money was arrested and sentenced to 6 months behind bars. Nevertheless, he rose from despair, more determined than ever to succeed. In search of himself, he moved to Oklahoma in 2005, where he fathered his first and only child. In January of '06 Safe was signed to an independent record label called Get At Me Entertainment and moved back to NC. It was during this time, his nickname Safe Money originated. His manager at the time said he didn’t feel investing in him was a gamble- that he was “safe money.†Safe Money cut ties with Get At Me Entertainment in June of 2006, but continued recording his own music. In December of 2006, Safe Money crossed paths with an old friend, Billionz, who happened to be a member of a popular local hip-hop group in Winston-Salem known as the Army of Gorillas (AOG) founded by artist Ricky Ruckus and the late BGZ. As luck would have it, AOG was recruiting members and heard about the unprecedented aptitude of Safe Money, inviting him to join the group. Since then, Safe Money and AOG have recorded and produced dozens of mix tapes, and burst into the local hip-hop scene with an immense following of devoted fans. The lyrical talent Safe Money possesses is far beyond his years. Coupled with the desire to maximize his potential, his distinctive style, and his incredible dedication and passion, Safe Money is sure to have a significant impact on the hip-hop Industry and join the ranks of hip-hop status. Bringing to the table a versatile flair, vivid imagination, and creative energy, Safe Money will be leading us to musical plateaus that have yet to be defined.
