About Me

I started playing the guitar when I was about 15 and formed a ska pop punk sort of band when I was in my early 20's called catfish marmalade. After that I got more into the traditional ska side of things and played with various Toronto musicians in that genre. By my late twenties I was going more in a dub and reggae direction which lead me to play on a jazz album with Montreal pianist and B3 player Mike Lewis. I'm 33 now and I've been working on my jazz playing for about the last four years. I've just been doing the odd trio gig here and there experimenting with the B3 organ drums and guitar sound. I have no gigs planned for the rest of the winter as I will be staying in and learning a bunch of new tunes and trying to lift every cannonball solo from the kind of blue album. I've also been studying on and off with Roy Patterson who has given me a good understanding of voicings, phrasing, ear training and theory. Actually I'd be pretty lost if not for the few lessons I've done with him. I'll be booking some gigs this spring and summer.
