I am talking about real music, the kind of music that requires tangible instrument and actual musicians. I’m talking about the kind of music that transcends the natural ear and speaks to the soul. I remember a time when a song could be distinguished by its own unique bass line or its riveting guitar break. This was a time when music was music: no additives, no substitutes, no imitation, and no fillers, just plain music. That was an era of remarkable works: from The Temptations to Smokie Robinson and the Miracles, from the Supremes to Martha Reeves and the Vandellas. It was a time of musical wonders. Being a singer/songwriter/musician, I can earnestly say that there is absolutely nothing like performing with a live band, and feeling in the world matches the one of having the perfect combination of musicians. It is incredibly vindicating to compose a set of musicians whose styles compliment one another just as flawlessly as their personalities. It is nothing short of invigorating than to be on stage and be able to feel and feeds off of one another’s energy. There is nothing like the formation of an intimate (musically speaking) connection between musicians. To be able to establish a connection so deep that enables you to act and think as one body. A relationship so powerfully in sync that you are able to anticipate one another’s every move. All of this is what influences me. I cannot even describe how engrossed I am by the feeling of performing with live musicians. I will always prefer the real thing because after all it is nearly impossible to vibe with a beat machine. Music emanates from the soul not from preprogrammed templates.
Sounds Like: No one that ever was, currently is, or will ever be.
