Jennifer's Going Back to Africa! Can you help?

About Me

So far we have the core of our band together consisting of singer/songwriter/rhythm guitarist Jennifer Schroeder and lead guitarist Matt B. We’re looking for musicians who have a lot of drive, evenings and weekends open, serious, dedicated, seasoned, local, reliable and more, no flakes. We’re looking for a drummer, a bass guitarist right now. We recorded our demo in Dec. of 2006. Please message me if you fit this description or if you know someone who does. We have played The Blue Cafe, The Rainbow Room and The Whisky a Go Go, The Harp Inn, Players, Cafe Enchante, Hurricanes, The Mining Co., and St. Paul’s Summer Revival. We are very excited to get this band together. We are recording our first album "La da da" and are hoping to release it in the Fall of 2008. We would like to thank everyone who has supported us. Tell us what you think of our music and invite your friends to take a listen.----------------------------------------------------M ATT BIRSKOVICH:Matt B was born in the fast-pace metropolitan thrum of northern California. Having lost his eyes to cancer before the age of two, the young blind boy began indulging his other senses. He began banging on the piano at the age of three, and the banging would continue unabated until age fifteen when he picked up a friend’s guitar for the first time. He begged his mother to use her guitar that had lain dormant in her closet for ten years and to get lessons. His request was granted and a life-long love was born. Matt B began studying under esteemed finger-picker Neil Hogan. Shortly after, an obsession with shred inspired him to begin studying with MI grad Stef Bedeson. Wanting to take music more seriously, he decided to pursue a formal degree. This began with some on-and-off studies with Rob Felps at Williams College. After transferring out of Williams after two years, he continued studying with Monterey Jazzer Charlie Dewece, classical teacher Ben Zussman, and the late Guy Horn, who inspired him to move to southern California. There, he began studying with the world-recognized David Grimes and his colleague Richard Turner for his classical education. He has also studied with local Jazz great Ron Eschete. Matt B has played, recorded, and performed with bands such as Horous Torous, figure 8, Stoneking and the Grievous Angels, The BBC Band, Leaving Orbit, and Amber Plaster’s Varity. He is available for lessons, session playing, and gigs, be they rock of any style, jazz, or classical.-------------------------------------------------- --JENNIFER SCHROEDER:Jennifer has been singing since she could form words. Her earliest recording was made by her father on a little tape recorder when she was about 3 years old. She sang in the church choir and school chorus. She also sang for some friend’s weddings. With the inspiration of singer/songwriter friend Manny Garza, and the encouragement from singer/songwriter friend Lauren Barecca, she began writing lyrics in 1996 and co-wrote her first song Better Days with her friend Rob Webster in 1998. She graduated from the Illinois Institute of Art with a degree in Graphic Design and Visual Communications in 2002 and moved to California in August of 2004. She was welcomed to California with a meteor shower that produced hundreds of shooting stars. She wished on every one of them for her dreams to come true. Her guitar had sat dormant for 7 years before she decided to give it one final try in September 2005. She was successful in learning to play it with the help and encouragement of Angelina and Ray Martinez. She performed her first song Fly at her first open mic on October 25th 2005 at the Harp Inn in Costa Mesa. In October of 2006 she met lead guitarist Matt Birskovich on LA Musician’s United and it was a perfect musical match. They recorded their first demo at Wildcard Records in December of 2006. She has played at the Cafe Enchante’, Revolucion 1910, Players, Harp Inn, The Blue Cafe, The Rainbow Room and Whisky a Go Go, Martini Blues, Hurricanes, The Mining Co. and St. Paul’s Summer Revival 2007 in California and DC Cobbs and Sam McGuires in Illinois. She has had her song "Fly", "Blue Streak" and "I Told Myself" played on KTIE 590am. She is also a member of the LIVE worship team at The Crossing in Costa Mesa.

Band Members: Jennifer Schroeder (Songwriter, Vox, Rythym Guitar) and Matt B (Lead Guitar)When I think of Matt B. and I, I think of the classic under dog story. I like to kid around and say we are like the blind leading the blonde but it's really not far from the truth. We've both overcome great obstacles in our lives, things that could destroy a person's heart and spirit, we decided to rise above the ashes.Opposites attracted to make a perfect musical match. I'm starting late in the game with my guitar playing and performing, only having a couple years of experience, but I have been singing all my life. Matt has been playing most his life and performing for many years, he's working on developing his voice. I feel truly blessed to have Matt joining me. I couldn't imagine a better friend and band mate. Matt inspires, encourages and teaches me. We believe in each other and in our music. The secret song writing formula right now is; the writing and composing is done on a simple level by me and then Matt helps to further produce it and adds his fills and leads. Matt has an amazing ear and mind for music with the education to back it up. My creative process is not as structured because I haven't been playing as long. I don't know any of the rules really, just some chords, so I go by feeling. I play rhythm guitar, write and sing and Matt plays lead and does back up vocals. The music is a part of us, it's inside of us and we've got to get it out. When a song comes to me it comes very quickly and is usually written in about 20 minutes. If I don't sit down and get it out on paper and guitar right away it'll nag at me and threaten to leave forever. I do my writing sitting on my bed in my room because it's the most peaceful place for me. Matt and I are going to begin co-writing soon. I have a lot of music in my head that I'm not yet able to translate onto my guitar. I'll sing the lyrics and melody for him and he'll find it within minutes and begin to compose it more beautifully than I could imagine making it myself. Matt also has some pieces he's composed that don't yet have words and I'm looking forward to seeing what we come up with and where this approach will take us.It's hard for me to be objective about my own music. People often ask me if it's good and all I can say is that I'd like to think it is and direct them to our myspace to take a listen for themselves. It's definately not your typical LA sound and it has it's own charm I think among other OC artists' styles. Our music has been described as Acoustic, Folk, Americana, Alternative and Light Rock. Some songs have a blues or island feel. Both Matt and I love all kinds of music and we enjoy mixing it up a bit.I write about life and how it's experiences effect me. When I write lyrics I don't hold back, I just put my feelings out there and hope that someone else has felt that way. I hope that my song helps them realize they're not alone. If my music could have any benefit in the world today my wish would be that it could help people get through tough times and say some things they just couldn't find the words to say themselves. I know that the music I write and listen to is healing for me and I'd just like to be a part of that on the biggest scale possible, whatever God has in mind. I do like to write happy and fun songs too and I'm hoping more of them start to come to me.
