Not Shakespeare is a pop/rock/blues band with members from the northern parts of the Netherlands. The songs written by bandleader Jurrie Meulman are performed by a seven-piece band and are filled with smart arrangements, beautiful lyrics and quality solo parts as well as powerfull teamwork.Jurrie Meulman often puts himself in a split position, with one foot in rootsmusic such as Robert Johnson and Bob Dylan and the other in modern popmusic by bands such as the Counting Crows and Eels.Despite the extensive band including female backing vocals and a soaring lead guitar, the young frontman has proven his songs can hold their own. He has won “Nakedâ€, the most important contest for singer/songwriters in the North with just his raw and soulfull singing plus a guitar.As a band Not Shakespeare participated in the Groninger Popcontest on the prestigious mainstage of club Vera and did many performances on well-regarded venues such as Popstage Romein, Zalen Schaaf, de Harmonie, Simplon and, of course, Vera. The band was also booked as support for the legendary dutch band “de Dijk†and was given airplay on local radio stations in several parts of the Netherlands.After releasing the EP “Neither here nor thereâ€, which instantly sold 250 copies at the releaseparty at club Ojeesee, the recordings on the upcoming full-lenght album are practicly finished and will surely provide this band with success.
