..............................................I truly believe that the world is a beautiful place full of many miserable people constantly trying to bring each other down because of their own insecurities. This is a vicious circle that has been going on since the beginning of time and no one ever wins. There are only victims in this scenario. We are all everything all at once or nothing at all. The perception we have of ourselves is God. If we believe the terrible things people may claim us to be, we may physically feel ourselves deteriorate. Image is nothing. It only has meaning when we explore all sides of ourselves and realize that labels only exist in the insecure and ignorant mind. Anyone who truly observes human behavior and carnal nature will see that all social groups formed where one must present themself a certain way are all equal roads to self-destruction. We are all in this together. Why would we try and separate ourselves from each other when all that does is create invisible hostility. We are all insecure. It is entirely possible to take all the negativity others press on us and turn it into a giant ball of positive energy. When we are all looking out for each other, everyone prospers and insecurity ultimately dissapears. This is what I believe.The name " Ashes of Purgatory" was brought to life under the perception that this life we live is in fact Purgatory. It is based around the idea that we are all already dead and are stuck in a world of sorrow but also still genuinely laugh at our given misery and make the best of it. Therefore, the music may vary anywhere from smooth melancholy to pure torment. It is important to explore and express all parts of the psyche.Jason is the heart of Ashes of Purgatory and has been working on various tracks since he first met Mark Snowden"Mark Rockwell" 4 years ago. This is when the life of the gypsy seemed only fitting to Jason traveling to different parts of the world and recording tracks with fellow musicians as well as total strangers. Jason's solo mission is to spread music to the world with all,"if any" profits being given straight back to the community from which it came.Since Jason began this soulful mission,all tracks since 2002 have been specifically under the title"Ashes of Purgatory". Mark grew up from a hip hop background and found himself interested in all styles of music after buying countless records to scratch and sample. Jason enjoys a wide variety of music including experimental, 80's pop, metal, motown, and new age. With Jason being an experienced guitarist and Mark being a producer, mc, and DJ we both had very much to learn from each other. When we first met we knew we had to combine styles to make music that no one has ever experienced. The other half of "How to Kick Yourself", Jason has worked with Laremy Wade in both experimental and death metal bands. Jason also played rythm guitar in the band Pushbutton with members Justin Little, Nate Thiel, and Bill Fleming. Mark also known as Mark Rockwell, Dj Skills, or Skhilly the Great has worked with countless hip hop artists but since hip hop has turned into watered down non-creative bullshit those artists or labels will not be mentioned. Most of the current recordings of Ashes of Purgatory have been recorded in various rooms throughout Atlanta using equipment ranging from a tape deck to Acid 4.0.
