Samuel D. Neipp began playing piano early on in life. He wrote his first song at age five. It consisted of three notes. He studied piano under Almadon Shurtleff, Brian Gurski, and Owen Lee for a combined three years. After that, he began writing his own music at the age of fifteen.
By age seventeen, Samuel had released his first CD, Leaving Mediocrity, and had composed music for two documentaries and a Public Service Announcement commercial. It was at this time that he found his love for film music and began to follow that path.
Samuel then went to Virginia where he studied composition under Dr. Keith M. Bradshaw. It was there that Samuel studied theory extensively and completed all his theory, dictation, and aural skills courses in just under a year. He also found a love for 20th century contemporary music and began composing in a variety of styles, including 12-tone, minimalism, jazz, and atonal.
For a brief period Samuel studied with Professor Lynn Shurtleff in Northern California. Though their time together was brief, their time was well spent and Samuel once again broadened his horizons of music.
He then spent 2 years of his life in the far away country of Estonia in eastern Europe, serving a mission for his church. There he continued to write music in his head and in various notebooks, and occasionally had time to get his hands on a piano and play. However, this was no longer his focus. He was dedicated to serving and helping those that he could. Upon his return to the USA, Samuel took up writing music with a new passion and intensity.
Though Samuel has studied film music and contemporary music extensively, he still has a love for new-age classical. He is constantly arranging music for choirs, soloists, and small groups. In 2006, Samuel wrote music for roughly 10 films/film projects. The directors were impressed with his ability to capture the vision and atmosphere of their film, bringing not only melodies, but emotion into the project.
Samuel currently resides in San Jose, California and his newest CD, Divine Resolve, is NOW AVAILABLE! Please contact him for details!
