Stenciling is the same process. Stencils are the easiest print templates to create. With minimal equipment, (heavy paper stock, styrene, and a knife), an artist is able to set up a 1 to infinite color template with only two to four cut stencils. All of my designs are hand cut at one point. The unlimited number of color combinations on a single canvas, single out stencils for prints. Working on a paint mask result, stenciled areas can have hundreds of color within one confined shape. That one shape, with others, forms the design. All the hand-cut designs are saved and filed. Most of the stencils cut are also sturdy enough for traveling mural work. As a new series emerges, I am able to dip back into a unique reserve of pre-cut designs and typography. Older designs sometimes creep back in to help illustrate a new work. Portrait studies and industrial designs shape most of my subject matter and dialogue. Studies at the Art Institute of Seattle in animation and graphic design, and four years in Los Angeles doing special effects model building have rounded the work you see presently.
