DIP (est. 1998)

About Me

WELCOME TO
'OYAH?' DIP were formed in the summer of 1998 by brothers Daz and Scott Lawson after teaming up with beverage supping buddy Craig Reynolds with the aim to create something fresh, distinctive & imaginative. The band drew on influences from the likes of Supergrass, Curtis Mayfield, The Beatles, Black Sabbath, Jellyfish, Bowie, Faith No More, Albert King, T Rex and Blur etc but maintained their punkish attitude & twat-ish sense of humour - all big guitars smothered in a cheapo plastic pop coating.
After releasing their debut 'Cheapo Plastic Prize', the band hooked up with bassist Rob Lane to record the follow up 'Gizzagoo - Be the Envy of your Friends'. The EP spilled equal doses of guitar driven pop combined with dark and quirky slices of melody and DIP set out on tour performing alongside Robin Black, Rachel Stamp, Crash Kelly and a New Years Eve slot in London with AntiProduct. Endorsements soon followed from well rounded Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles and Bowling For Soup frontman Jaret Van Erich, both of whom have been spotted wearing their own DIP 'Credmaxxer' t-shirts, proving that everyone is succumbing to the DIP magic!
The band spent the summer of 2004 out on road with their 'Back Shapes & Earaches Tour' taking in as many outdoor festivals and sampling endless BBQ's and real ale as well as delivering the BIG ROCK SHOW which is always gauranteed. The summer of gigs has been captured on film for a future DVD release.
2005 was a transitional year for DIP. Whilst work began on a new DIP album Rob was kept permanently busy with his other band Teenage Casket Company, touring both the UK and East Coast USA and Scott took over the drum position in Patchwork Grace giving the band a real shot in the arm and revealing the soon to be legendary 'Pink Fucking Drum Kit'.
For the past 10 (count 'em!) years DIP have carved an eccentric niche in the local music scene with songs tackling the issues that others dare not touch! Whether it be the dangers of zombie canines in 'Blossoming Dogs', shrunken heads in sheds in 'Uncle Les' or the BSE crisis in 'Shed the Beef', DIP have been song-writing pioneers treading where no band has gone before. Their new cultured makeover has swept away the familiar blue shirts replacing them with gentlemanly suits and a refined demeanour appreciative of fine teas, cakes and great big meat pies. What remains, however, is essential DIP - slightly barking, slightly out of this world and altogether rocking.
Ladies and Gentlemen, we present Dazmondo, Laney74, Sirrus and The General your guides to a more civilised 21st century.
