Tony Ulysses Thompson left his body here on earth, as his soul went on to be with our Father!At this time, regardless as to what has been previously released in the media, the results of the autopsy HAVE NOT been released and the cause of Tony’s death has not been determined. We the family would appreciate that everyone respect our privacy in our time of grieving.Tony was one in a million; knowing how to fit in with just about every personality there is in this world. He knew how to laugh with the gigglers, and cry with the hurt! He touched many hearts when his voice was heard on the radio, on stage, hanging out at a family gathering, or just sitting at home “CHILLIN’ ON IT!!! He was a great son, father, companion, and a favorite in our family! Though he will be missed immensely, his legacy will live on forever and he will hold a special place in our hearts.Tony was given the gift of song and he loved what he did for a living. He LOVED his fans and was in the process of starting a new solo project to present to the world. Tony would be the first one to say that without his fans, he would not have experienced “LIFE” as he knew it! Thanks you!Having arrived on the music scene at the right time, just as New Edition, the reigning Jackson Five replacements had begun to splinter, Hi-Five was the new face of R&B. After garnering three platinum albums, two number one hits, two Grammy nominations, an American Music Award nomination, two Soul Train music awards, and a Greatest Hits release, Hi-Five sat at the top of the charts as the new reigning kings of R&B. Signing with Jive records in 1990 their self-titled album went multi-platinum with the hits- I Like The Way, I Cant Wait Another Minute, and Just Cant Handle It. Being featured on 7 different movie soundtracks and signing an endorsement deal with Sprite, Hi-Five was proving to the world that they deserved the title.With an opportunity to release his first solo album, Tony Thompson signed to Giant Records, releasing the smash hit “I Wanna Love Like That”. Tony’s first solo release titled Sexsational allowed Tony to work with the industries greatest producers and artists such as Teddy Riley, Babyface, Dave Hollister, Joe, Devante Swing of Jodeci, Missy Elliott, Mary J. Blige, Faith Evans, Al B. Sure, and Sean “Diddy” Combs, who would later sign Tony to his Mega record label Bad Boy Records. Tony called Bad Boy home for 3 years, during the run of Notorious B.I.G., Mase, 112, and Faith Evans, before deciding to go on his own once again. Not just in music, but in business as well.Since his solo project in 1995 on the Badboy Records label, no one had heard from Tony, until 2005. Pursuing different opportunities, 2005 brought the return of Hi-Five, releasing the smash hits 10 Toes Up and Feelin U featuring Mike Jones and Paul Wall which was released to radio and climbed to 1 worldwide. Tony also worked with other artists and producers such as Bun B of UGK, Bizzy Bone of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and Play-N-Skills. With long nights in the studio, Tony is now working on a new album that he plans to release in the fall. Tony’s love for music allows him to bring forth a flavor that the industry hungers for. Being able to stand the test of time, Tony Thompson portrays superior vocal ability, not as a teenager, but as a grown man with a point to prove.
