About Me

Meet the next biggest female gospel artist of the 21st century, Vanessa Holmes. Vanessa, born on the 3rd day of September in 1973, is a native of Southaven, Michigan. She is the eldest girl child and the 2nd child out of 4 children of Elder Connie Holmes. Vanessa was raised in Forrest City, Arkansas until the age of 8, then Vanessa and her family moved to Little Rock where she resided until she was 17 years old. While living in Arkansas, Vanessa began singing at the age of 5 years old. God used her to sing at an early age. Through her singing, God made room for her to sing in the church. She remembers doing lots of solo performances in her adolescence years and she began to gain recognition from plenty of important people in the gospel industry. Vanessa began to write lyrics in junior high school in which she thought was simply poetry. Even when she was told to stop writing, she just kept on writing. At the age of 12, she was the Assistant Choir Director in her father..s church. She also helped direct the District..s Choir when called upon by the Church..s District Superintendent.Vanessa moved to St. Louis in August 1991 and graduated from McClure High where she was in Concert Choir and active in music. She started directing her church..s choir. Through directing, she met lots of interesting artists and musicians in the music world. In 1994, Vanessa sang with Mattie Moss Clark, the mother of the famous female gospel group, The Clark Sisters in a choir concert in St. Louis with Petey Madison. At the age of 33, she was blessed to able to record her first Gospel CD titled, ..He Was Always There... Out of the 11 songs on the CD, God gave her the lyrics to 8 of them. In her dilemma of choosing a CD title, she remembers that ..God was always there... As a reminder, she believes that all things work together for the good of them who loves the Lord. For this reason, and so many others, she shall press on!Contact Vanessa..s Management at: c/o Mildred L. Batts, MillHou$e Management, 808 W. Influences: When I was a child my influences were gospel artist Vanessa Bell Armstrong and R&B artist Whitney Huston. I've found that music always express what I am feeling or going through. I use to listen to the Winans and Andre Crouch some days when I got home from school. I have learned that music sets the mood, whether you are happy or sad. Music is an expression of who we are or who we want to be.
