She started out in life as a dancer when she started at the age of seven. She later began rollerskating which brought her many honours including - bronze in the national championships in 1989 and 1990 and silver in the 1991 the world junior championship. At the age of sixteen she turned her back on both rollerskating and school. She started to get jobs as a model and was even named Australian model of the year in 1992. This helped her in getting an audition for what is now Australias top rated soap opera - Home and Away. She played the role of the loveable Angel Brooks. Some of Melissa's storylines as Angel include- a plane crash, being hit by a car and unable to walk, although when getting married to Shane Parrish, Angel managed to take a few hard steps down the aisle. She also went through an earthquake, the death of a husband and a birth. Angel and Shane are to this day one if not the most loved couple that has ever appeard on the show. Melissa and her co star Dieter Brummer (who played Shane Parrish) didn't get along very well which made her performance even more impressive. Melissa and Angel left Home and Away in 96/97.
