but more importantly...about
EQWANOX...
A Rock band from Waikato, New Zealand with a Pop-Punk/Grunge feel and a listenable edge.
They were formed in 2004 by the bands core members James Hanright, Nick Douch and Aaron Clark and have built up a diverse fan base. With a stronger presence in the youth market through playing All Ages gigs and their Myspace site, they nonetheless command respect from the older demographic through their numerous R18 shows.
2005 saw their 1st big engagement supporting Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins (U.S.A) at The St James Theatre, Auckland, NZ which opened more opportunities to gig in the Auckland area. Corgans band included Matt Walker (Former drummer for Filter and The Smashing Pumpkins), Brian Liesegang (Guitarist/Founding member of Filter) and Keyboardest Linda Strawberry. This year also saw them enter Studio 203 (Somerset, Kitsch, The D4) to record their 1st 2 track demo of the songs ‘Less Than Negative’ and ‘Decent Side’ The band made their radio debut on 16/04/2006 when ‘Less Than Negative’ was the ‘demo of the week’ on The Rock FM.
The band has since recorded a 5 track demo at Chazz Rabbles Number 8 Wire Recording Studio which has seen songs KILLING TIME and FALLING appear on national music channel C4TV on the shows Studentville and M.E.A.T.Y.
'21st Story' is currently on A rotate on Hamilton student radio station Backbeat FM (formally The Generator). KILLING TIME, OUTSIDE and FALLING are also played frequently on Backbeat FM and also on Waikato University station Contact Fm.
In October of 2006 the band made a music video for KILLING TIME. This video has appeared on both the TALL POPPIES and THAT’S SO EMO shows on ALT TV. KILLING TIME was also used by Wellington film-maker Ben Cowper in a surfing video which features top exponents of the sport.
Early 2007 saw the band wanting to enhance their sound. This saw Zakk Wetton come on board as a 2nd guitarist. The new line up took out the 2007 Waikato/Bay of Plenty final in the World Battle Of The Bands which took them to the national final which was viewed live by the nation on ALT TV, and saw them finish just behind the winners.
The band is equally at home playing at self organised gigs or as a guest of other bands. Eqwanox has what it takes to work a room large or small. They play with passion, energy and confidence, holding the crowd from the start of their set to the end. Expect an energetic, enthusiastic and entertaining set to satisfy the ground swell of expectation from their audience
They have had a privilege of sharing the stage with great kiwi acts such as The Bleeders, Stylus, The Rabble, The Managers, The Midnight Youth, Los Muertos, My Life Story, False Start, Streetwise Scarlet, Falter and 5 Star Fallout.
They have also been guest - band at Smokefree Rockquest Regional Finals in 2006/2007/2008 and were interviewed by THE SET about their 2006 appearance at the East Coast regional final.
So far 2008 has seen the band as a finalist in the KFC ‘Sounds From your Hometown’ competition ,2nd equal finish in the 1st ever Axces bar ‘Rattle the room’ competition and finishing their debut album ‘All Roads Lead From Here’. The band is currently working on funding to get the album off the ground.
EQWANOX are driven to succeed, yet determined to have fun in the process, and have since the beginning had the attitude "Don't wait for things to happen, make things happen".
EQWANOX proudly support 'The New Zealand Child Cancer Foundation' ( www.childcancer.org.nz ), because "We believe kids should not die before their parents" .
