I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I've had this little thing for a while now and have done nothing with it, so here I am to do something with it.

I'm a late twenties chick who's lived more places than some people and fewer than others. My interests vary from science to theatre to animal rescue to home decorating. I graduated with a degree in geology, and am currently working with a consulting company in the Boston, MA area.

I live in Cambridge, MA with my boyfriend, two dogs (one completely bonkers) and a cat. I think another cat would be smashing, but only when I'm in a good mood.

I'm currently working in the air quality sector of environmental sciences. I'd definitely like to meet more earth scientists in the Massachusetts/New England area. Basically, I'd like to network with more scientists to stay abreast of the happenings in Geology. I am considering a masters degree in the next few years.

My Interests

theatre rocks water, preferably surface reading books, both fiction and non-fiction watching movies expanding my knowledge about everything, as I feel it's sadly lacking right now driving, but it has to be a car with a manual transmission to make it really exciting working with animals other stuff, too.

I'd like to meet:

I'm happily connected to a significant other, but I'm always interested in meeting new people, both male and female, of any age. Please feel free to send me a message!

Music:

I'm pretty outdated when it comes to music right now. I rely on others to slowly bring me up to speed. I recently discovered Paolo Conte and I think he's great. Just bought a double disc of Nina Simone's music. There's also:The New Pornographers, Franz Ferdinand, The Drive-By Truckers, Wilco, Fiona Apple, Neko Case, Rilo Kiley, Tom Petty, Damian Marley, Danger Mouse, Coup, Gnarles Barkley, Radiohead, Reel Big Fish, etc.My older interests include musicals, like The Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables, ska stuff like Buck-O-Nine, folk stuff like Eddie From Ohio, and at least one CD of Oboe music. Because really, life is not complete without oboe music. And Mozart's Requiem.

Movies:

Alfred Hitchcock movies select John Wayne movies anything playing at the Landmark Kendall Cinema (best theatre ever) All the President's Men Pride and Predjudice (Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth version) Christopher Guest movies Hayao Miyazaki films
Actually, the movie thing is pretty wide open. Thank god for Netflix, it allows us to watch a huge variety of different movies. Currently, I have The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. I do like me some Tommy Lee Jones.

Television:

Charmed, BBCAmerica, CSI (the original, not the Miami crap), Chappelle Show, all the VH1 rating shows, My Name is Earl, Arrested Development, Carnivale, Good Eats, Ham on the Street, Animal Precinct, National Geographic Channel, The Weather Channel

Books:

I'm your standard, run-of-the-mill geek:

Everything by Tolkien Harry Potter series Neil Gaiman non-fiction books about the history of interesting things like Salt, and Candy everything by Christopher Moore Fool on the Hill by Matt Ruff Carlos Castaneda's books John Updike (fan-fucking-tastic writer!) Caleb Carr's historical fiction Southern Lit. all the books (of which there are many) on my bookshelf that I haven't read yet.

Heroes:

This has got to be the strangest category to tack on to the end of an "Interests and Personality" section. My heroes? You know, I have people I admire, and people who amaze me with their ability to handle adversity with grace, but I don't have someone I idolize. So I guess I have nothing to put in this spot.
