About Me

I am Dave Segal , a music journalist and editor who mostly champions innovators, bloody-minded mavericks, and creators of uniqueness. I've also maintained a sporadic DJing hobby on both college radio and in clubs. I have DJed on bills with luminaries like Matmos, Oval, Sutekh, Michael Mayer, Bruno Pronsato, Abe Duque, and many others, thanks to good luck and key connections. My radio shows on WCSB --Cosmic Slop and Secret Ions--are currently dispersed hither and yon in the stratosphere, although a handful were captured on TDK cassettes, where they're decaying even as I type.On August 11, 2008, I rejoined The Stranger as staff music writer. More of my journalistic work can be found in The Stranger and in XLR8R , Alternative Press , SF Weekly , Cleveland Scene , Detroit Metro Times , and SOMA . My early contributions to the ignominious practice of music criticism can be found moldering in ancient copies of Alternative Press, Creem , and The South End.Easygoing, hard-coming.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Psychedelicists, stoic hedonists, dogged catalysts, those who can listen to Miles Davis' On The Corner all day, word nerds, caustic aphorists, comedic geniuses, blaxploitation-film composers and stars, flamboyant minimalists, ruthless crate-diggers, down-to-earth elitists, kozmik d00ds.
