About Me

Hello, I'm Dave. The other Dave.Anyway, since you're reading this, you probably want to know everything about me. What makes me tick? What are my dreams? My aspirations? How do I cope with being the least photogenic person in this hemisphere (there's a bloke in Australia- bloody hell!)? Well, it's no picnic, I can tell you. I mostly just try to ignore it, but writing pointless, self-effacing blogs about it can sometimes help.So... where to start? Well, I'm a drummer, but unusually for a drummer I'm not interested in drumming and would rather play something else. Like the piano. They're nice. Unfortunately, I'm in a band now and noone else can play the drums so I have to play the bloody things. You might say I have been caught in a 'snare'. Eh? Eh? No.
Also unusually for a drummer I'm not that interested in beating people up or choking on my own vomit (hope you got that reference, Zep fans!) and in fact I'm a bit of a geek. Just look at this exquisite spelling and punctuation! Do you think I got that from sitting around and drumming all day? No I fucking didn't, thank you very much! I like comics, too. Big, ambitious ones that I can show to people and try to prove that comics are better than they think they are (like stuff by Alan Moore or Dave Sim, if that means anything to you). It never works. People hate comics, and I'm still a geek, no matter how good my spelling is.
Oh yeah, music. I like lots of music of all different genres, because I'm really open-minded, you see. I expect my music taste is much broader than yours, whoever you are. I'm also ten times as modest as anyone else could ever hope to be. My favourite bands are Orbital, Tool, Led Zeppelin, BT (he's not a band), Dire Straits, Craig Armstrong (neither's he), Thomas Newman (or him) and many, many more. Music is a good thing.
The other main interest in my life is playing with Voodoo Johnson! Playing music, I mean. Otherwise I'm not interested, no matter how much they want me.
Er... so that's me. You might think there'd be more to me than music, comics, not liking drumming and good spelling, but you'd be wrong. I'm boring.

I'd like to meet:

Er... dunno, really. Orbital, they always seemed like nice chaps. Kraftwerk would be interesting. Dave Sim wrote my favourite comic, but he may be a bit scary. Meeting James Taylor would be cool; he's a bit like a friendly uncle. And of course, there's Gerard Houllier, who I'd like to pelt with eggs and punch a few times, but knowing me I wouldn't. I might give him a nasty look if I'm feeling brave. Probably wouldn't.

Music:

Orbital
BT
Kraftwerk
Voodoo Johnson
Tool
James Taylor
Ben Harper
Led Zeppelin
Pearl Jam
Craig Armstrong
Dire Straits
Pink Floyd
Matthew Good

Movies:

Dunno, really. I quite like films, but couldn't tell you my favourites. Here's a few I think I like more than most others:

Shawshank Redemption
The Truman Show
Tremors
Duel
Some Kind of Monster

Probably loads of others...

Television:

Liverpool matches
Garth Marenghi's Darkplace
Twin Peaks

Comics are books. So:

As far as -ahem- 'real' books go:
A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson
Valis by Philip K. Dick
A Gentleman's Game by Greg Rucka (just read it; surprisingly good spy stuff)
Apt Pupil by Stephen King
Voice of the Fire by Alan Moore

Heroes:

Dave Sim (comics. I'd just ignore it.)
Alan Moore (see above)
John Bonham
Peter Cook

And the joke ones:
Benny Pick
Carl Gethin
Dai Robs
Pablo Gethin
