Jackson Mclaren

About Me

Jackson Bard Mclaren was born well after many of the classic albums that first inspired him were released. His parents raised him in the small Victorian country town of Warrnambool on a steady diet consisting of the likes of Bob Dylan, Nick Cave, Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen. This musical baptism fuelled his early passion for music, and set him apart from most of the other kids in town who were more focused on footy than on music, poetry or literature.
At 18 years of age, Jackson is now more and more creatively inspired by his own observations of people and place. He is emerging as a singer-songwriter of rare talent. His song writing is often deeply contemplative and yet at other times seems to simply be celebrating the beauty to be found in everyday life. There is an honesty and depth in his lyrics and in his performance, that promises to make him a compelling storyteller for many years to come.
After self-producing many recordings in his bedroom, Jackson has now recorded his debut EP with 2007 ARIA Producer Of The Year, Josh Pyke. Jackson was also special guest on Josh Pyke’s national album tour in February 2009, which saw them take in sold out venues across the country.
Jackson has previously supported The Swell Season (IRE), Jay Brannan (USA), Howie Day (USA) and Gin Wigmore. And has held his own in front of crowds at The Tivoli (BRIS), The Metro (SYD), Fremantle Arts Centre (WA), Palais Theatre (VIC) to name a few. Jackson also just completed a Thursday night residency throughout April at The Wesley Anne in Melbourne.
Jackson’s self-titled debut EP was released on June 27, 2009 through Wonderlick / Inertia.
