RUMBLEFISH REVIEW
Mathclub is a match made in music-store heaven. We mean exactly that—the members of the band actually met inside of one. Also their work is a great example of what happens when intelligent songwriters combine a wide variety of genres and styles, much like someone mixing music from music-store shelves.
Mathclub is heavily influenced by legends like the Cure and New Order, but also sound very similar to contemporary rock acts such as the Editors and the Killers.
Soaring atmospheric instrumentation creates powerful hooks and Moynahan's loud and wispy voice resonates through song verses about his secrets, regrets, and yearnings. Considered "shoegazer on steroids" by fans, Mathclub's alt-rock sound is great for backing up climatic or self-reflection scenes.
Making Math Club cool.
