About Me
Jo Anna Hazel Norris is a dancer, choreographer, director, and dance education specialist. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts, from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, with a major in Dance and special studies in Dance Production under the tutelage of Professor Dave Covey. Jo Anna is originally from Detroit, Michigan, where she, graduated from the historical class of the Detroit High School for the Fine and Performing Arts. Ms. Norris is currently, the Founding Director and Curator for the educational choreography series entitled Choreographic Sketches. She is also the Artistic Director and Founder of The Norris Dance Company. Her work engages the performing arts as a transcendent and transformative catalyst for social change and artistic empowerment.Jo Anna has studied and performed with many noted world renowned choreographers, dancers and performers such as the late great Aaliayh, Be Be Miller, Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, Ron K. Brown, Marie Basse Wiles, Assane Konte, the late Tommy Gomez, Lenin Williams, Garth Fagan, Denise La Mora, Terry O’Connor, Regional Yates and George Faison. Furthermore, she has participated as the Festival Director/Coordinator for the Spirit of African Music and Dance Festival, held in Detroit, Michigan.
