**The first EP from these Brooklyn-based, Israeli-born lo-fi rockers should appeal to Sebadoh fans everywhere; its gut-bucket riffs are offset by groundswells of fuzzed-out guitar, and it moves comfortably between playing it safe and pushing the limits. But in case your heart lies in other indie pastures, Rings & Ropes has loads of emo lyrics -- in all shades of gray. "Broken Down Car" is a real gem, with a semi-precious narration track, intoned with the cool detachment of a Nico or a Blonde Redhead, about being "a fairy in this fairy tale". Lead singer and multi-instrumentalist Amitai Asher has his lyrical moments, too, the best of which comes while singing, deadpanned and slightly accented, "blow-jobs, bad jobs: I've had them all". Ring & Ropes is certainly a promising start. Its confident, unshowy guitar work and cool waves of intensity suggest a band on the verge of bigger things.---(Rob Guthrie, Splendid Magazine)
