Sommersmuget-live was established the summer of 2006. We took the backyard behind Roald's Elektro in Langesund, Norway, and turned it into a concert venue. We built a small stage and borrowed a small PA system. We applied for an alcohol/food license and set up tables and chairs. The venue takes about 100-130 people. The show is every Saturday from 12:00 - 15:00 PM. The venue is outdoors.
The main idea was that it was all for free! Free addmitance and cheap food & drink. The musicians played for tips (we passed a tophat around the crowd, and had a guitarcase in front of the stage). Every show we gave away free tickets for one of the audience to win a Morgan acoustic guitar. We called musicians we knew, local artists and more established performers, and the response was tremendous. Blues, jazz, bluegrass, folk, poetry, theatre and so on... was heard through the streets of Langesund every Saturday.
The first summer was a great success. We had seats for about 60 people, but the rumour spread fast, so every show we had about 150 people inside (and onto the streets). Artists (even famous ones) called and asked if they could come and play for free!
