"Het Poortgebouw" is the name of an extraordinary 19th-century building on the south bank of the river Maas in Rotterdam, Netherlands. It is a national monument, and it provides livingspace to a collective of 30 people. But most of all, it is a place where people can gather, strangers become friends, voices are heard and creativity is a necessity. The Poortgebouw gives a stage to everybody who wants to express him/her/hirself. There's always place for a band on tour to stop by and perform, for a beginning poet to read out loud in front of a crowd, or for a hungry person to have a clean, fair meal. This is the real thing...
