About Me

The only people I communicate with on this thing are people that already know me, so you should already know about me.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

I like anyone who likes me. If you'd like to meet me, then I'd like to meet you.

Music:

I don't listen to any one genre exclusively, but I tend to prefer industrial and indie rock. However, I also enjoy hip-hop, punk, ska, classical and most anything else.My favorite artists/bands of all time are NIN, the Beatles, KMFDM, Tool, the Clash, Radiohead, and Pearl Jam.The bands I'm currently obsessed with are the Eels and the Flaming Lips.

Movies:

I tend to like more artsy movies and foreign films. My favorites include The Crow, Akira, Adaptation, anything by Hayao Miyazaki, and Requiem for a Dream. Don't ask me about them though since I'm not the kind of person to watch movies over-and-over and memorize movies, or even recall most of their plots.Exceptions to this rule are the Royal Tennenbaums, Office Space, or Zoolander. I have to watch these movies whenever they're on, which is most every weekend. Thanks Comedy Central.

Television:

I watch the Simpsons and the Family Guy on a fairly regular basis. I would watch more Adult Swim, but I've gotten out of the habit and tend to forget. The Venture Brothers and Home Movies are great and I'm slowly getting into Metalocalypse and Korgoth.

Books:

Anything by Marx, Spinoza, or Kierkegaard, Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein, A Green History of Earth, and anything having to do with philosophy or theology.I'm supposed to be reading the Bible, but my stupid prospectus and internship applications prevent me from doing much recreational reading.

Heroes:

Bruce Lee, Michael Jordan, or anyone else who can: (a) take something that seems very simple and reveal it to actually be impossibly complicated AND (b) take something that seems impossibly complicated and reveal it to be actually very simple.

My Blog

Thanks for a fun night

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of my classmates and friends out here in Kent who made it out last night to celebrate my prospectus defense. A ton of you came ou...

What I've Learned in Graduate School

Yeah, I've learned a lot about research and academia, and moved forward in my career and whatever, but this isn't about that. This is about the important things that I've learned in...

I've come to appreciate the Midwest

Let me preface this by saying that my heart is still in the NYC, it'll always be my home, I rep it as hard as I can, and I have no plans to move to the Midwest. But, in the spi...

I'm going to kill the president/Sheethal is a wacko

Alright, alright, I'm not going to kill the president. I was just trying to keep the NSA on their toes. If they're going to monitor my e-mails, phone conversations, and blogs, I'm g...

Inquisition In Re Inebriation

I've observed that most people have three, distinct phases of intoxication. After a few beers people enter Phase 1: Mildly Buzzed, afterwhich people enter Phase 2: Intoxication, Pro...

Insert generic blog title here...

It kind of pisses me off that there are things that everyone thinks, but no one says. Now I know you can't say everything on your mind, especially because much of it will probably h...

Metropols and hegemons...

OK, the thing of the week that ticks me off is people who use words that don't exist, but are distilled from pre-existing words, and therefore sound like actual words in the English...

Bill O'Reilly...

Bill O'Reilly deserves to be severely beaten about the head and neck. Not badly enough that it would be fatal, but badly enough that he might think twice about saying things that ar...
