Rouben Hakhverdian was born in Yerevan 1950, where he worked in State TV and studied at the capital's Theater Institute. He earned a degree in TV and Theater Direction in 1975.
A self-taught musician and poet, Ruben has written and staged a number of musicals.
With Jacque Brel and George Brassens as its major influences, Ruben's music has also been shaped by popular music of 60s.
Rouben's songs were banned in Soviet Armenia intil1988 for what was seen as their political dissidence.
Today, Rouben is celebrated as a modern troubadour in both Armenia and Diaspora.
