Visit our website at www.1starkcav.com Welcome to the 1st Arkansas Cavalry Regiment Company “D” Myspace site. The 1st Ark is a Civil war reenacting unit dedicated to the portrayal of confederate cavalry soldiers in an extremely authentic manner. Period correct uniforms and horse equipment along with drill based upon original military manuals are utilized in local, regional, and national reenactments. It is the mission of the 1st Ark to present a accurate portrayal of Confederate military life during the War Between the States, less the children of today forget the war that made this nation what it is today. For those of you who have no idea what Civil War re-enacting is, it's a hobby where a group of people get together to show what life was like during the Civil War. The solders make up companies and battalions which are groups of re-enactors authentically interpreting the war between the states. To correctly portray the history of the period, these re-enactments include not only battle scenarios with infantry, artillery, and cavalry, but also include realistic first person interpretations of the soldiers' fate. Men, women and children participate in portraying civilians during the era as well. This is an informational site for anyone interested in Civil War re-enacting. My Interests

I'd like to meet:

So why do we do this? Most of all, it is fun!! This is a hobby and like other hobbies, it costs money and takes so much effort that IT BETTER BE FUN. We wouldn't do it if it wasn't! Since we are in the cavalry, many of us enjoy our horses. We consider being a cavalryman the ultimate step in doing something with our horse that is completely unique. We love American history. Any child can sit in a classroom and read in their textbook about the Civil War, and an adult and sit and watch a special on the history channel. But for someone to see it with their own eyes brings a reality to it. We do this to truly let people experience what it would have looked like, sounded like, and even smelled like in the 1860's. We do this to remember, honor and commemorate our American ancestors and their military service is a privilege for us.So how do I join? It's easy! Anyone can get involved in reenacting. Just send us a message, we will be more than happy to answer any question you have.
