Yodel A-Go-Go

About Me

Yodel A-Go-Go began as a result of my mid-life crisis. In 1998 I was unemployed, about to be divorced, and my younger brother had passed away unexpectedly. To cheer myself up one night, I went out to see a reunion of 70s/80s Minneapolis rockabilly band Safety Last. I had such a great time that my goal became immediately clear: I wanted to play bass like Rusty Jones!
I spent 1999 learning my late brother's Fender Precision bass, and by 2000 I was jamming at open stages with The Dieselfitters and Lazy Ike and the Daredevils. Through that, I met some other like-minded musicians and we formed Yodel A-Go-Go. Since then, we've shared the stage with our local honky-tonk heroes: Safety Last, Trailer Trash, Stockcar Named Desire, The Vibrochamps, The Copperheads, The Front Porch Swingin' Liquor Pigs and more.
Yodel A-Go-Go is Dan Peterson on the bass and singin' (and occasional yodel,) Julia Williams (of Reverse Cowgirl) on drums, and now starring Clay Williams (Dieselfitters, Roy Hubbs) and Jennifer Markey (also a former Dieselfitter and currently leading her own band called The Buckboard Boys) on guitars and vocals.
We hope you'll come out and see us soon!

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: You're lookin' at it!
Band Members: Dan: Bass, vocal
Clay: Guitar, vocal
Jen: Guitar, vocal
Julia: Drums
Influences: 50s and 60s roots music, including:

The kings and queens of honky-tonk country:
Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, Patsy Cline, Wanda Jackson...
(No recent stuff, other than the occasional Dwight Yoakam song.)

Vintage rock & roll and rhythm & blues:
Elvis, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Smiley Lewis, Etta James...

Rockabilly:
From oldies by The Davis Sisters and Curtis Gordon to neo-billies like Brian Setzer -- we're not purists (no doghouse bass, and dig the hair on the guitar player!)

We also do a few tunes by more recent artists:
... many of whom are in our friends list at right, including Gillian Welch, John Mooney, The Belmont Playboys, Halden Wofford and the Hi-Beams and even a polka by Hypnotic Clambake!

Jennifer's version of "Kiss The Baby Goodnight" was originally recorded by Charline Arthur in 1955. Dan's ultra-obscure Ferlin Husky cover, "Get Me Off This Fence," and Etta James' "Strange Things" come from the same era. "Flirtin'" is an original.
Sounds Like: If someone told us we sound like Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen, or Southern Culture On The Skids, we'd be flattered either way.
Record Label: None
Type of Label: Unsigned
