Dag Ringstad opened his first record store in 76, and in 77 he founded his first band Rock Shelter. They did a lot of gigs but released only one single (Wine And Women/ From The Bottom To The Top, 1980) He founded his second band The Holidays in 84 which did get a record deal with EMI, but he left the band before the first single was released. Finally in 88 he released his first solo album under the name of "Long John", the album was called "No Big Deal". It was in the country rock style and the lyrics were all in English. The album was produced together with Per Kjetil Farstad which also played various instruments on the record. He then started to focus on norwegian texts, and when he released his second solo album (Mørkt Fastland) in 95, it was all Norwegian lyrics. Musicians on the album Bjørn Ole Rasch (keyboards), Steinar Gregersen (Guitar), Alf Emil Eik (Bass, Engineer). In 2001 he produced the album "New Norwegian" for the Quart festival. In 2002 he released Puslespill Å Biter. An album that got a lot of publicity because the father of the Norwegian Crown Princess is an actor in one of the music videos from this album. The album was produced together with Dag Lauvland who also plays various instruments on the album. Dag Ringstad has also written songs for other artists like "Vår" for Nina Eilertsen. You can hear the song on her myspace profile. Beside the music, Dag Ringstad also works as a painter. His most famous exhibition was "Dead Beat" where he used smashed old vinyl records to make pictures of dead rockers.
