The Retort

The Kitchen Garden Cafe proudly presents...

About Me

The almost LEGENDARY Retort Cabaret Show - an eclectic mix of music, comedy, poetry and cabaret in suburbia.
NEXT SHOW - SUNDAY 5th October 2008 (and every first Sunday of the Month) This month we have comedy from Maureen Younger, Amused Moose Starlet 2008 and regular BBC Radio guest panellist; Frank Sanazi, The Ubermeister of Lounge, who brings a new order and discipline to the usually more relaxed swing style; Peter Perke with his spinning wheel of bingo fun, direct from the '70s with quickfire gags, cheesy games and lounge-tastic voice; Frankie Chalet, a beatnik accordionist who embodies (quite literally) the entire sex drive of France; plus local Poet and Comedian Rachel Sambrooks. Music comes from Dominic Crane and his band who you may have caught at Moselely Folk Festival, Cambridge Musician Clara Kousah, plus local musicians Laura Louise and Chris Smart.

The Retort Cabaret has a long and illustrious history and an impressive alumni: Charlie Cheese (aka Mackenzie Crook from the Office), Simon Fowler from Ocean Colour Scene, Mickey Greaney, Dean O Loughlin AKA Dean O'Big Brother, AND MANY MORE cut their teeth amidst the spoon benders, folk singers and organ grinders of the Retort. We began life as a boozy late night drinking, listening, heckling and laughing night. We were born at the Lamp Tavern, then after briefly blessing the Old Moseley Arms with our presence, finally settled for a good while at the now demolished Waterworks Club in Edgbaston in the early 1990s. Breathe. We were also resident at the Adam and Eve,Digbeth and The Prince of Wales in Moseley ... now we have matured, a bit, got our own place and prefer intimate dinner parties where we can enjoy the show with a bite to eat. What better site than the fabulous Kitchen Garden Cafe in York Road, Kings Heath?
