Band Over Interview!
The Winners of 2007's Battle of the Bands: BAND OVER
Band members - Michael Miller and Lachlan White
Q. What is the reason behind the name 'Band Over'?
Lachlan: The main reason behind the name 'Band Over' is a joke. (say it really quickly)
Miller: Some people have talked about it being a really smart name, us being in year 12 with the band ending, but it's really just for fun.
Q. What are your plans music-wise once you finish college? Will Band Over continue after school?
L: We want to tour with Blink 182
M: They're broken up
L: We'll make it happen
M: We also want to be Emperor of Japan. As a group
L: We might do some gigging..like three in one night, that'd be cool
M: Get a fan base happening...we also want to start our own political party
Q.Have you decided what to do with the prize money you won?
M: There's enough to buy like one mike stand
L: Or get ourselves 10 minutes at McDonalds
Q. What are your band influences?
M: Sum 41.... Beethoven
L: Some Green Day, we played a lot of that starting off
M: Pop punk stuff
L: Pavarotti
M: Britney Spears
L: because she can come back from anything
Q. How does it feel being the first band to win the Original song contest and the official Battle of the Bands in the same year?
M: Did we win both?
L: I didn't know we won both... The original i guess was a surprise to win, we didn't think we'd done so well on that
M: Girlfriend was probably one of our greatest performances
L: It was just a fun song and everyone knows it
M: We didn't really care about whether we won or not, as long as we had fun
Q. What is your original song 'Lover of Long Words about?"
M: The title, really, isn't about anything
L: We honestly didn't know what to call it
M: The songs about leaving mostly
L: And about the end
Q. Backstage, did you have any diva demands?
M: I think i asked for a guitar strap
L: 5 Midgets and some Hummus. I only got 1 midget though
M: Lube and gobstoppers
Q. Why did you choose to perform 'Girlfriend' by Avril Lavigne?
M: Well you see it really relates to us as a band.
L: Yeah i don't like his girlfriend... Seriously i dont but i could be his girlfriend
M: And i could be HIS girlfriend. Also after the reaction last year with milkshake we discovered the crowd really enjoys us playing girly songs.
Q. What possesed you guys to make that intriguing introduction?
L: Have you seen festively plump people running in slow motion, it just makes everything so much better.
M: We didn't want people to take it seriously since it was pretty much us just paying outselves out. It's something that adds to our performance.
L: It pretty much was just a bit of fun
Q. How would you classify your band's genre?
E.g Pop, Punk, Rock, Emo
L: Classical Funk
M: Epic Punk
Q. Does the band have a unique style when performing?
M: Well we like to dress up as girls for practice
L: Plus our band room has posters of unicorns, horses and Sailor Moon to help us develop our stage personas
M: What's the question again?
Once hearing the question again....
M: Some people care too much about what people will think and say, thinking if they do a particular thing it may isolate them from social groups and their opinions. We like to incorporate crowd incolvement into our performances, since you don't have to be great musicians if you work the crowd.
L: We also like to lip sync; we're inspired by Britney Spears and Ashlee Simpson
Q: Does your band have a motto?
Both: Band Over, Empire strikes back
