Ã…skknal is the Swedish for the burst of the thunder.
This project was born after several years of partnership
between Oðr (from the old Norse, it is related to the german word wut, "rage, fury," and to the Gothic wods, "possessed") and Ulfheðnar (that means
"clad in a wolf skin").
In the very beginning their aim was to recover the rough direct sound of the
fisrt decade of Scandinavian Black Metal under the name of
"A Porta Inferi" (literal "to the Hell's gates), but soon they found out they
wanted some more. In their mind (gone mad) was the intention
to let their music transpire all the anger they felt towards humanity and
the ever-lasting torturing pain that insanity inflicted to their goddamn souls.
So a quite long period of trial succeded, new sounds were
experimented and slowly come in to sight what it should have been.
Finally they created a crude, oppressing sound with furious vocals, fast and freezing guitar riffs blowing throughout the coldest darkness of northern winters, somewhere going to melody, and devastating fast drum and bass.
Some taste of Folk brings back to ancient times and recreates the atmosphere
of a the pagan age yet lost.
In 2006 Ã…skknall began to write their first songs, they're actualy recording
some stuff for the we-hope-soon-to-release promo album.
Ã…skknall are self produced and at the moment looking for a
supporting label.
