My soul rests in the country of the rising sun. But my freedom remains in the hands of America.__ -11.07.05
What to say about Allan? I mean, what to say that really encapsulates it all, and at the same time can be understood by any poor sod who happens upon this myspace profile? Allan is a man, but he is more than that. For Allan, is both a Japanese man and an American man. It is this struggle for identity between nationalities that lends some definition to Allan. It lends it to his personal life; the constant confusion and lack of belonging. It lends it to his friends, who are constantly kept guessing: what will this mad man do next? It lends it to his legal status, prohibiting him from opening bank accounts. But most importantly, it lends definition to that enigma that is Allan's very existence. Try, if you may, to fathom the deeper mysteries of Allan Leal's existence. It is like trying to answer a koan. -Nelson Trautman 04.18.05
