The BrainMusic organization is committed to promoting and educating the public about music therapy by celebrating the physical and emotional impact of popular music in all types of recovery.
To accomplish it's mission, BrainMusic will...
• EXTEND FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS to organizations and clinics working to provide music therapy programs.
• Coordinate events and festivals, BUILDING A COMMUNITY of artists and fans interacting in honor of music-related recovery.
• Facilitate the SHARING OF MUSIC-RELATED RECOVERIES, as testimonials of healing which become nominations for the Festival lineup.
The concept of the BrainMusic Rockfest was developed by Diana Gualda, a rock photographer newly diagnosed with the autoimmune disease Multiple Sclerosis. After an almost month-long hospital stay, she was decidedly deficient in something she hadn’t even realized she’d been getting at shows. Against her family and friends’ explicit objection, confined to a wheelchair, and with close to no energy, she attended a small concert the night after being released from the hospital.
She exclaimed afterward to the band, "I swear you just chopped a week off my recovery time!" In addition to the music putting her in great spirits and kicking in some adrenaline, she described her experience as similar to having a terrible thirst quenched, or stepping out into a cool breeze after being in a hot, stuffy room--a very physical sensation of relief and replenishment. The very next day one major complication involving lost physical function righted itself on its own for the first time in almost a month. The relief was only temporary, but after only two days of accupuncture and one more show, it was permanently relieved--she actually regained control during the show!. She has followed an entirely drug-free treatment, and the MS has been completely reversed.
