T.A.N.K stands for "Truth, Adventure, Nature, Knowledge" - it's an attitude, a state of mind – a sense of confidence about who you are. T.A.N.K girls are all ages, races, colors, shapes, sizes, and orientations – and we think that’s awesome!
The idea for T.A.N.K girls was inspired by the girl in the picture on the left. A few years ago I'd taken pictures of Kim, but it wasn't until recently that I put all of my negatives on CD and realized how much I loved the pic.
And it wasn't just the pic, of course - Kim is an awesome artist (genius at mosaics), and had the kind of attitude that made her someone you always wanted to be around.
I realized that there was a common theme across all the women I knew or had photographed who liked to sport tank tops - confident, great attitude, independent, ready to face the world (and do it with a smile), often artistic in some way, some with tattoos and piercings (but not always), willing to travel whenever the opportunity comes up - and both women and men think they're awesome.
One of our friends put it this way: "They're kinda the athletic version of lingerie; sexy without revealing all. Leave something to the imagination, but show enough skin to fuel it."
Originally, T.A.N.K girls was going to be a photo essay, but instead we decided to expand that idea and showcase and share our appreciation and admiration for T.A.N.K girls everywhere through mySpace.
