Are you ready to enter Cougar Country?Many of us are fortunate to share our nightly establishments with cougars, one of the mysterious and elusive of all creatures. The cougar’s secretive habits and astounding predatory abilities – a cougar is capable of carrying off a 400 lb. man – have resulted in a wealth of misconceptions and irrational fears.
Actually, if piano or tapas bars aren’t your scene, you may never catch a glimpse of a cougars, much less have a confrontation with one. Conflict between cougars and humans is extremely rare. In the past thirty years Statistics Canada reports that only fourteen men were drunk enough to have submitted to cougar attack. The vast majority of these attacks were on young men under the age of twenty-five…who live to tell the tail.Although a cougar attack is highly unlikely, it pays to be prepared. Information and awareness are your best defenses.About Cougars:• The cougar, also called “ma’am or†young ladyâ€, have long nails, which maybe one-third of their total body length, and an unsetting bleary yet steadfast gaze.
• The cougar’s primary prey are young, naive males. It will also feed on older lawyers, brokers, doctors, and occasionally, the odd cowboy.
•Cougars are most active at dusk and dawn. However, they will roam and hunt at anytime of day or right and in all seasons.
