About Me

Supernovice is an alternative/indie band that formed in late 1992 in Orange County, CA. They forged their own sound but drew inspiration from grunge, surf, pop-punk, and brit pop. Their first live performances were at backyard house parties. The band's popularity increased with the help of a loyal fanbase and support from the surf/skate/snow industry. Songwriter/guitarist/vocalist and co-founding member David Turbow started up his own label, Onset Records, to secure radio airplay and distribution for the band in 1994. Supernovice endured several line-up changes, eventually solidifying with a rhythm section of Pasquale Talarico on bass guitar and Stefan Veselko (drums). The group's last full-length album, "Timely" was released soon after standout female vocalist, Johnna Corbett joined the group in 1997. In addition to three full-length albums: the critically acclaimed "Well Fed" (1994), "Inescapable" (1996) co-produced by Greg Hetson of Bad Religion, and "Timely" (1997), Supernovice wrote two EP CDs: "Suspended in Bliss" (1993) on Meridian Records, and "If I Tried" (1999). The band has shared the stage with such diverse acts as: Agent Orange, Aquabats, Berlin, Dick Dale, Phantom Planet, Save Ferris, Smile, and Supernova. Taking a cue from Fugazi, Supernovice embodied the "Do It Yourself" ethic of making and promoting music. After a very long hiatus, the "Timely" lineup of Supernovice reunited in 2005 for some shows in Southern California. Despite being dormant for nearly half a decade, their songs remain accessible and relevant today, and their future remains to be seen.
