gareth
Growing up on a steady diet of punk rock and metal, it was inevitable that when Gareth discovered the world of electronic music he was immediately drawn to the darker, harder end of the dance spectrum. Arriving in London at the age of 18 and finding the same energy and aggression in Lab 4 that he found in Sepultura and Bad Religion, he returned to Brisbane with some new addictions. A serious hard House habit led to him purchasing a a pair of turntables in 2004 and some hard as nails NRG records. Emerging as one of Brisbanes hard house up and comers in 2007, Gareth has played (under his dj name MK ULTRA) for FUZE events, has a sunday night residency on krankydigital.com with focus on bringing more NRG to the people. With influences as diverse as Tricky, At the Drive In, Eric B and Rakim, Dillinja, Steve Lawler and the Prodigy, anything can be expected in his dj sets and productions in Vega and Vaguer.
ed
ed begain his musical career with the saxaphone in primary school. from there he went on to study violin, guitar and bass and by 15 was playing regularly in two bands and just beginning to get into the fine art of recording. at just 18 ed formed, with two friends, febury records, a brisbane based punk label, which in only two short years managed to release 2 ep's, (which debuted at 7 and 11 on the australian independent charts) and event managed over 65 shows, including interstate tours and an art show. now aged 22 ed has been gigging and recording for almost a decade. he has set up a modest home studio and all recording is done there in brisbane's west end.
during the day ed works as a graphic designer to support his musical hardware habit. he graduated from design college australia as dux last year and was awarded a BAD (brisbane art directors) Award and a Design Against Fur Award while studying. he considers himself a complete digital creative (graphic design, typography and font creation, web design, flash animation, photography, motion graphics and audio production) and runs a freelance studio, ed coghlan design (which does all the above) as well as working full time. he has also recently been signed to lapart's 'wallspace' gallery in newstead, brisbane, with his first collaborative exhibition just passed in May.
