About Me

I have been the resident DJ at Jacques’ Bistro in Paia since January 2005, playing to crowds of nearly 200 people every Friday. The best feature of this event is its diversity – people from all over the world dancing to music from the U.S., South America, Europe, and beyond. This experience has taught me how to read a diverse crowd and always have something for everyone to keep the party hot.I got my start on Maui at Jacques’ in Paia and then Casanova Nightclub in Makawao, Maui with several exhilarating nights. Before moving to Maui I was a music journalist in Caracas, Venezuela and still write free lance music and travel articles. Since September 2003 I’ve been conducting the Six Degrees Records Night promotion, spreading their global fusion of traditional rhythms with the most cutting edge electronica http://sixdegreesrecords.com/nights.php.Maui Time Weekly said, “Six Degrees Night, DJ El Gato's promotion of Six Degrees Records' infectious global grooves--the dopest electronic beats mixed with the traditional sounds of Brazil, Africa, India and beyond. No soulless techno here, this is joyful, deep, dance music with the perfect mixture of the organic and the electronic to keep the dance floor packed all night long. Live congas by Tato empower the Afro-Latin numbers and Melody's sensual tribal motions accompany the music perfectly. This is something definitely out of the ordinary that appeals to anyone looking for a unique night out and a place to let loose. [MARIO FIORINI]” http://archive.mauitime.com/v07/v07iss32/index.html.At local music clubs I play a dynamic mix of American Hip-Hop and Funk and South American/Caribbean music. I’ve played at clubs on Maui, like Mañana Garage, Hapa’, Horhitos, and Neptunes; as well as the Maui Salsa Club’s monthly dances, many private parties, weddings, corporate events, and Christmas parties. The music selection is quite varied and I can accommodate just about any request.I consistently keep the party alive whether it’s funky American music or from more exotic places; I always finds the right vibe to keep the party hot. Creating a warm tropical ambience, I routinely draw a diverse, sophisticated crowd. House parties are one of my favorite gigs (from large high-profile affairs to more intimate gatherings); I’ve played for some high profile clients on Maui so I know how to wow people of all ages and backgrounds.
