About Me

THE MERCURYMEN
-Incomplete Folksingers-
The Mercurymen were molded from primordial elements in June of 1995 as an antidote to the milque toast, narcissistic regionalism of North America's increasingly antiseptic, post grunge musical universe. Lyrically poignant, stylisticaly boyant and politically strident, they were banded together by artificial insemination and an innate will to bum rush the show. None of them have inner children. Dodging the quixotic tides of nefarious indie rock go-getters, their main aim was/is to BE, and the sounds they make are an attempt to achieve the sonic surface to air annihilation of all things in the world that are enemies of truth, beauty, and innocence. They succeed when they play the notes they know nothing about, reaching into forgotten, dark places for the lost truths of the music's incomplete legends, myths, and songs.
Over time they have honed their nickel wound sonic assault into a deafening war cry that raises contempt and fear deep in the heart of the cynical hipster. To date they have released three cds, "MULTIMEDIAOCRITY", a stylistically dense journey through the ugly cancerous heart of a media driven culture; "ANTI-MATERIAL-HEADSET-DRILL", an epic voyage of studio experimentation and spontaneous rock and roll combustion; and "HOW TO TEEN", the most concise, arrogant, focused, and rocking effort of thier ouvre so far. Both "Anti..." and "How To Teen" recieved applause from pundits around the globe, driving home how small that big old world actually is.
In more recent times, The Mercurymen have continued to bludgeon live audiences with their palpable rock action. Over the course of their time here on earth they have had the pleasure of sharing stages with The Grifters, Guided By Voices, Rocket From The Crypt, Pere Ubu, The Bevis Frond, Mike Watt, and many others. Currently winding up work on their long awaited fourth cd, recorded in Brooklyn, NY with Martin Bisi, (Sonic Youth, Material, Helmet) and in Toronto with Dale Morningstar, (Godspeed You Black Emperor, The Dinner is Ruined) & Bernard Maiezza, (Change of Heart, Cookieduster), they plan to spend the rest of the year continuing on their wayward path to rock and roll damnation, playing in any small town along the way that will let them eat with their hands.
The world lacks warriors, and The Mercurymen have prepared themselves accordingly. Know them by their work.
