This is the story of a young man by the name of Donnie Carr. Donnie was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. Donnie grew up in an abusive environment.
Donnie started singing at the age of four and eventually found that he found
comfort in singing. “I think I would have lost it, if I didn’t have the
music to channel my frustration. It is my greatest form of expression. I
would feel empty without it. It is a part of who I am.â€
Donnie credits his mother with giving him a loving foundation. His mother
worked two, sometimes three jobs at one time to support the family. His
mother was also the spiritual backbone of the family, making sure she took
her children to church every Sunday. However, Donnie credits his father for
the abusive foundation that was laid in his home. Donnie’s father was very
knowledgeable about the Bible and had a gift to retain the scripture,
however Donnie struggled to see where his father applied it in his family
life. Donnie believes that his father was tormented by his past failures and
personal regrets, and allowed it to consume him. He believes that his
father’s insecurity and self doubt, set the foundation for his abusive
family life.
Donnie feels this is all a part of the story that he must tell in order for
people to really understand who he is, and his motivation to share himself
through the gift of song. Donnie believes that he has to give a partial
credit to his father, for his spiritual foundation, due to the fact that his
daily battle is to be the opposite of what his father was to him. He
understood that in order to break the pattern of the abuse that existed in
his upbringing, he had to accept the call of God in his own life.
This decision is what led Donnie to walk away from a successful career as an
R&B Artist, and start over as a Gospel Artist. He realized that he could not
continue to live what he sang about and not fall into the same trap that his
father fell into. He realized that he needed something greater to sustain
him. He knew that being a secular artist was not what he was called to be.
He wanted to preach about what God had done in his life, instead of
glorifying the next sexual conquest, or the typical heartbreaks that occur,
as a result of sexual immorality. Donnie realized that his message was one
of redemption, along the everyday struggle to be a good husband, father, and
a man of faith.
“As a man of God, I didn’t want the same thing that happened to my father to
happen to me and my family. I know Satan is there constantly trying to get
at me, trying to make me fall, and keep me from fulfilling the destiny that
God has planned for me. But I won't let him. The Word of God declares in
that I have set before you life and death. Choose life. I understand that I
have to choose life. The pain of my childhood forced me to choose life. We
are living in a dying world, that believes that there is only a higher
being, rather than a God that is all-knowing, all-powerful, who is able to
supply our every need. He is everything, He is awesome, and that same
awesome God, loves every single one of us. This is my job, my task, to let
everyone know. No matter what we go through, and no matter how difficult the
circumstances are, or have been in the past, His love is greater and deeper
than any pain we could ever endure. He has proven that LOVE through the gift
of His Son, JESUS, and all we have to do is accept that gift. GOD Cares
about us, and GOD LOVES US."
Donnie Carr has accepted the call to share his message with the world. He is
more passionate about this message than ever before, and invites everyone to
share in his journey of self discovery and his spiritual, mental and
physical growth.
