About Me

Welcome to the official MySpace page for the

Annual Toronto Thin Lizzy Celebration

a celebration of the life and music of Phillip Parris Lynott!
The 7th annual show has come and gone and damn did we ever rip it up!
So here we are after 7 years... 82 separate performances from 37 different artists... 252 songs played... and beginning the journey to round EIGHT!
One of the goals of the Toronto Thin Lizzy Celebration is to help highlight the amazing diversity in Lynott's music and in the vast array of artists his music has inspired. To this end, over the years the Celebration has played host to rock, country, punk, acoustic (guitars and pianos!), reggae, jazz, metal performances and even a seriously kick-ass Greek bouzouki band!
This is something that sets the Toronto show apart from other similar events worldwide, in that it is not a night of tribute bands (not, however, that there's anything at all wrong with that...), but instead, a night of artists paying tribute. Every performer who's ever graced the TLC stage has worked their backsides off to learn the songs they've played (this, in most cases, on top of their already busy schedules). This is an act of love, plain and simple... a love of Phil's music and respect for his memory...
For the first four years, the proceeds from the event went to the Roisin Dubh Trust to help defray the enormous cost of erecting a statue of Phil Lynott in the heart of Dublin. 19 years after his untimely passing, this memorial in bronze was finally unveiled to a crowd of 5000 fans, on August 19th, 2005. (For more on that, please check HERE .)
With the statue in place, subsequent show's proceeds have gone to such worthy causes as the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CCFF), the TOMA Foundation for Burned Children and in 2008, Daisy's Eye Cancer Fund..
For a peek at what all the controlled chaos has looked like, please check out James Taylor's site for an archive of Toronto Lizzy Celebration pictures past and present.
Tickets were on sale at Monster Records (664 Yonge St. Toronto - 416-975-1829 - www.monsterrecords.ca )

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

YOU in the summer of2010!

Hey beautiful people!

It is with great regret that I have to let you all know, there will be no Toronto Thin Lizzy Celebration in 2009.

Those of you who know me, know that the past year or so has been filled with one trial after another and I just don't have the resources to devote to putting on the show this year. The Lizzy Celebration has always been about sharin' the love and spreading the word and rest assured, although I'm taking a short break, I am not abandoning the show. My intention is to take a brief pause and return next year for round 8, recharged and ready to go.

On August 20th 2009, Phil Lynott would have celebrated his 60th birthday. I've got some very preliminary plans for a more intimate birthday tribute based out of the store on the Saturday following... More info to come.

In the meantime, as those of you who made it out to this past year's Toronto Thin Lizzy Celebration know, once again, we worked our butts off to put together a great filmed performance of a couple of kick-ass Lizzy tunes, "No One Told Him" and "Hollywood" with our good friend Danko Jones (on the night of the show was in Europe on tour with Motorhead and Saxon(!) ) with righteous T.L.C. faves, the McBrides . The vid was premiered on the night of the show and the audience response was truly overwhelming... Thank you all again for making these nights so special.

Well, now we are very proud to be able to share this footage with you again thanks to the magic of YouTube! The songs are embedded here on our homepage, (and below...) as well as our other Myspace page www.myspace.com/monsterrecordstoronto... (and on our Facebook group here: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2370666482 )

Thanks again to Danko, the McBrides (Des, James, Gary and Joe), Kevin Hilliard and Tim Foy for all your hard work... you guys kick ass!

Enjoy! ...and we hope to see you all out in 2010 for the 8th Toronto Thin Lizzy Celebration! Stay tuned for more details...

Peace,
Rog
